53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team changes hands

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2012) – Soldiers from the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat team welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony held at the C.W. Bill Young Armed Forces Reserve Center, in Pinellas Park, Fla., December 1, 2012.
Col. Mike Canzoneri took the reigns as the new brigade commander from Col. Thad W. Hill.
“It’s a great honor and a privilege to be selected as the commander of the infantry brigade,” said Canzoneri.
Canzoneri served in a variety of leadership positions throughout his military service. He served as the company commander of Alpha Company, 3rd battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment; as the battalion operations officer and executive officer for 3rd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment and as the deputy commanding officer of the 83rd Troop Command.
“Col. Hill and I go back a long way,” Canzoneri said.
“I hand over the reins of these Soldiers and leaders knowing without any regrets or hesitations that they are the best,” said Hill. “They can accomplish whatever missions that are asked of them.”
Hill served in key command and staff positions including Commander, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry then as the executive officer, 2nd Battalion 124th Infantry. In 2003, Colonel Hill served a one-year, combat deployment in Iraq as Commander, 3rd Battalion, 124th Infantry, and later, Executive Officer, 53rd Infantry Brigade. Hill is retiring from the Army National Guard after 27 years of service.
“The brigade will be getting truly a great leader in Col. Mike A. Canzoneri,” said Maj. Gen Emmett R. Titshaw Jr., The Adjutant General of Florida. “He is a professional who respects and values his team.”
