Colonel Thad W. Hill currently serves as the Commander, 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Colonel Hill graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Colonel Hill is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
Colonel Hill was commissioned as a second lieutenant through Louisiana State’s ROTC Program. His first assignment was in Germany at Headquarters, Headquarters Troop, 2nd Squadron, 11th Armor Cavalry Regiment from 1985 to 1989. He then served in Headquarters, Headquarters Troop, 9th Regiment, Fort Ord, California and later, joined the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1991. Colonel Hill transferred to the Florida National Guard in 1992.
During his more than 25 years of service in the Army, Colonel Hill has served in several key positions in the Florida National Guard, including Commander, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment; Executive Officer 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment; Commander 3rd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment; Executive Officer, 53rd Infantry Brigade and Director, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate.
Colonel Hill deployed to Iraq as Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment.
His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal for Hurricanes Andrew and Opal and the Florida Distinguished Service Medal. He has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab for Military Proficiency.
